Michael Trexler, Ph.D., LMHC



Dr. Michael Trexler (he/him) is a native of Peru, Indiana, with nearly two decades of experience in the mental health field, primarily in university and private practice settings. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (IN), Licensed Professional Counselor (GA, VA), National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, Certified EMDR Therapist, and Certified Vibroacoustic Therapy Practitioner.

Dr. Trexler’s clinical orientation emphasizes understanding how thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships contribute to a person’s distress. He incorporates various therapeutic approaches, including emotion-focused therapy (for individuals), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, the Gottman Method, schema therapy, mindfulness and somatic-based approaches, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and vibroacoustic therapy. Additionally, Dr. Trexler is trained in Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Trexler serves as an Assistant Professor and Core Faculty member in the Department of Counselor Education and Family Studies at Liberty University. He holds three degrees:

  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision, Liberty University (May 2020)
  • M.A. in Professional Counseling, Liberty University (May 2012)
  • B.S. in Music Education, Indiana State University (May 2002)
